DREAM THEATER'S "PROGRESSIVE NATION" featuring OPETH, 3 and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME to embark on inaugural tour of North America throughout April & May 2008.
New York progressive metal pioneers DREAM THEATER are set to unveil their maiden voyage of "PROGRESSIVE NATION". A package tour they will headline that will also feature the talents of OPETH, 3 and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
The tour is the brainchild of DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy who explains: "I've been wanting to assemble a package tour like this for many years now. With all of the festivals and package tours that go through America, I've been talking with our manager and agent for over 10 years now about doing something that focuses on the more progressive, musician-oriented side of hard rock and metal. I decided it was time to stop talking the talk, lace up and finally walk the walk"
While DREAM THEATER co-headlined 2005's GIGANTOUR along side MEGADETH, as well as embarking on previous co-headlining runs with both QUEENSRYCHE and JOE SATRIANI, they have primarily built their 22 year career on the road playing solely to their own audience. Portnoy comments: "I've always prided myself on personally hand picking new and exciting opening acts for DREAM THEATER in the past. Bands such as PORCUPINE TREE, SYMPHONY X, SPOCK'S BEARD, FATES WARNING, PAIN OF SALVATION and KING'S X. In all of these cases, it was important for me to pick bands that I admire and respect but also ones that I know our fans will enjoy. And I think playing with DT has helped expand all of those band's fanbases as a direct result. I am hoping PROGRESSIVE NATION will continue to do the same thing in offering an audience for more daring and experimental acts that otherwise may not get the mainstream exposure they so rightly deserve."
Joining the bill for this inaugural run is Sweden's legendary OPETH who have been enjoying an ever-growing and expanding audience of their own for many years now. DT's Roadrunner Records label-mates will be ready to unleash their new album come next spring and PROGRESSIVE NATION should be a great launching pad for their next World Tour cycle. Guitarist/Vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt adds: "We're very excited about this upcoming tour with DREAM THEATER. It will be the first tour that we're doing in support of our upcoming record, and also somewhat of a dream come true personally as I've been a fan of theirs for a long time. It's quite intimidating to be on the bill with such amazing musicians but obviously we'll try and give them a run for their money and pull out a few nice licks of our own. I guess we'll need to practice a little bit for this....how boring! Yet, I can't wait for this tour to start and I'm sure we'll have a blast with the DT guys as well as together with the other bands on the bill!"
Also on the bill with their unique blend of pop, funk and hard rock is upstate New York's 3 who issued the following statement: "3 is very pleased to announce its participation in the PROGRESSIVE NATION tour. For well over a decade DREAM THEATER has been the vanguard of progressive rock and we are completely psyched to flex with these heavyweights, playing much of our new record "The End is Begun". This package will rock and awe fans everywhere as one of the most important tours of the year. It's a progressive way of music, a progressive way of life....welcome to the PROGRESSIVE NATION tour."
North Carolina's BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME are enjoying rave reviews and critical acclaim for their latest CD "Colors" and are looking forward to sharing the stage each night with both DREAM THEATER and OPETH. Vocalist/Keyboardist Tommy Rogers comments: "We are very excited to be touring with two bands that have been such an integral part of our musical upbringing. It is a wonderful opportunity to have our music heard by new ears."
DREAM THEATER are currently in the middle of their "Chaos In Motion" World Tour which has already traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America in support of their latest Roadrunner Records CD "Systematic Chaos". The World Tour will continue throughout 2008 hitting Asia, Australia and South America before concluding with PROGRESSIVE NATION returning to North America in April/May 2008.
Portnoy hopes that this first venture of PROGRESSIVE NATION will prove to be a success that can enable himself and DREAM THEATER to continue the package into future years and begin a tradition that musicians and fans alike can count on for quality musicianship and artistic integrity on future tours.

Dream Theater's new anime video for the track "Forsaken" will have its exclusive World Premiere on MTV2's Headbangers Ball on Saturday, January 26th, 2008.
"Earlier this year, did a poll of the last 10 years amongst the readers
of the Dutch Progressive Rock Page (DPRP) and "Scenes From A Memory" came out winning by a landslide!
Also in the best track department, Transatlantic's "Stranger In Your Soul" and "All Of The Above" ended up
at numbers 1 and 3, with DT's "Octavarium" snuck in between at number 2. DT's "The Spirit Carries On" also
came in the top 10 at 7th position.
In the "best thing that happened to prog in the past 10 years" section Transatlantic came at number 1 and Dream Theater
at 7th position."
"Dream Theater and Roadrunner Records are ecstatic to announce
that the band's new video, "Forsaken", will premiere in early 2008. We think this anime-themed video will be the best from Dream Theater. Period.
To whet your appetite, we're giving you a peek at the
video's main characters here. That's Leo on the left and Alice on the right. You'll learn more about them over the coming weeks..."
This is the actual kit that Mike Portnoy played (and destroyed) at his AMAZING JOURNEY tribute to The Who in Whittier, California on May 27th 2006.
Although MP did his best Keith Moon impression in demolishing the kit at the end of the set, rest assured that it can still be setup and played
(but the couple of nicks and scratches make it that much more special....there still even may be a little bit of blood on it from Gary Cherone's head as well!)
This auction couldn't have been made possible without the donation and cooperation of our generous friends at Tama Drums and Sabian Cymbals.
We'd also like to thank Victor Salazar at the Drum Pad in Palantine, Illinois for parting with the bass drum heads!
This kit includes the following pieces:
Tama Rockstar Drums in Piano Black finish: (2) 16x22 Bass Drums (3) 8x14 Tom Toms (2) 16x16 Floor Toms
the original "Amazing Journey" custom front heads for the bass drums
An autographed photo of Mike Portnoy playing this kit

However, in order for the book to be published before Christmas, we need to hit a certain level of pre-orders.
Currently this is around the 2000 copies mark. Indeed anything significantly less than this, and the project may
well need to be adapted due to the high costs involved in producing a book of this type. Rather than ask people to
part with their money at this stage, you can now register your interest in pre-ordering the book by entering your
name and e-mail address. The benefit of this is that you will be the first to know when the ordering process begins
(hopefully in two to three weeks time) and will be able to guarantee yourself a copy. We will e-mail you as soon
as this ordering process is available. We hope that we will be able to have the books in our warehouse and ready
for shipping before Christmas.
It is imperative therefore that you register as soon as possible if you want to buy the book, as if the number of
people registering is far less than the 2000 mark, the project may be in doubt. Obviously please only register once,
as we will be basing the print run on the number of registrations. However well intentioned, if we get a load of
dud registrations, we will just be left with a huge bill and a load of books that will get pulped. But please feel
to register twice if you plan to buy a couple of books!
Please note that the book will not be available in stores or at online retailers. The ONLY place you can purchase this
book is via www.dreamtheaterbook.com. We will be shipping
worldwide in conjunction with our distributors who are based in the UK and USA.
The UK RRP will be £39.99 and $69.99 in the US, plus postage and packing. Please note at this time we do not have the
postage costs. It has also not been decided as to whether this book will be re-issued at a later date in another format.
Please spread the word among the DT community to ensure that we can maximise the level of those registering for pre-orders
to ensure that this project happens!

BAND AND LABEL JOIN FORCES WITH NEW STUDIO ALBUM PLUS WORLD TOUR TO FOLLOW
ROADRUNNER RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater. A new studio album, Systematic Chaos is due in June. Dream Theater will hit the road in support of the album for a world tour, including major festival appearances in Europe.
Since their first studio release in 1989, this US based five-piece has notched up record and DVD sales in excess of six million and headlined to audiences of 20,000. Having undertaken seven world tours across 42 different countries, Dream Theater has established a live reputation that has swept them to arena-status around the globe. They have appeared alongside acts such as Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Yes.
Recognized by peers and public alike for their advanced musical expertise, the band (Mike Portnoy, drums; John Petrucci, guitar; John Myung, bass; James LaBrie, vocals; Jordan Rudess, keyboards) has long held the ability to combine complex arrangements with unadulterated songwriting skills, the material often underpinned by riffs as heavy as anything in the Metallica repertoire.
"This album's got all of the elements we've become known for," reveals Portnoy. "The focus on musicianship, the skull-crushing riffs, the big progressive epics and the heart-wrenching melodies. We've got one of the strongest and most devoted fan bases in the world, and they should certainly be happy with the new material. By working closely with the label we hope to turn a great many new heads too."
"Dream Theater and Roadrunner Records have led parallel careers on the cutting edge of metal for many years," say A&R men, Derek Oliver & Dante Bonutto, "We're thrilled to be working with a genuine market-leader, and when you add everything the guys bring to the table to the independent spirit and work ethic of the label, the results can only be exciting in the extreme!"
Prior to teaming up with Roadrunner, Dream Theater was signed to a seven-album deal with Warner Music Group worldwide. The deal commenced with the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Images And Words (1992), a Gold-certified US release, and concluded, in equal style, with Octavarium (2005), a Top 40 Billboard outing. In August of last year the band issued Score, a live album/DVD (recorded at Radio City Music Hall in New York), which went straight to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard DVD charts, knocking Pink Floyd from the top!
By the following month, the five were holed up at Avatar Studios in New York, working on the new album with veteran engineer/ mixer Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Porcupine Tree). As usual, Portnoy and Petrucci chose to co-produce the project, which features seven compositions (one a 25-minute epic), and word on the grapevine is that the Dream Theater/Roadrunner alliance looks all set to kick off with a classic.
Systematic Chaos, Dream Theater's ninth studio release, arrives at a time when the band is casting a longer-than-ever shadow across the rock and metal landscape. Their influence is being acknowledged by an increasing number of contemporary, cutting-edge acts such as Stone Sour, Trivium, Shadows Fall, Opeth as their fan base continues to grow.
Touring plans will be announced shortly. Please visit www.roadrunnerrecords.com or www.dreamtheater.net for up to the minute information.
"This one goes out to the craziest fan base on the face of the planet.
We really screwed the pooch this past month when our initial shipment of "The String Quartet Tribute to Dream Theater" went out with an incorrect package and song list. We apologize to all of you who waited for months and months for the album to arrive, only to be met with a product full of glaring errors.
Your response to the situation has been great, to be fair. We know that sonically we nailed the sucker, but on the manufacturing side of things, we dropped the ball. As such, the next run of product will go out with the list of songs that you actually hear on the record. Plus, anybody who has already purchased the bunk copies can contact us and we will send out the proper artwork. You can drop us a line at info@vitaminrecords.com
As for the incorrect package, well, we'll call it a collector's item and leave it at that.
Thanks for all the kind words we've heard so far and for omitting all the truly harsh things we know we deserve for our foul-up.
- James Curtiss, Project Coordinator, Vitamin Records"
"For over 20 years, Dream Theater has consistently challenged and engaged critics and fans alike with their unique brand
of progressive metal. They've sold millions of records worldwide, released a diverse array of studio albums, live sets
and side projects, and have sold out tours across the globe - and they've done this by catering to no one. Members of both
the mainstream and underground have been quick to dismiss the impact that Dream Theater has on their fans, but the proof
is in the pudding. We challenge you to find a more dedicated fanbase than Dream Theater's.
In the classical, experimental spirit of their best material, The String Quartet Tribute to Dream Theater is a
stripped-down take on the ambitious favorites that have won them fans around the world. Culled from a tracklist selected by legendary
drummer Mike Portnoy, there is something for every DT fan to enjoy on this auditory onslaught. This is one project every
Dream Theater fan needs to add to the voluminous library they've dedicated to the world's most amazing band."
"Hi gang,
Do you live near New York City?
Do you want to have your voice on the new Dream Theater CD?
If so, I'm looking for a group of about 30 or 40 people to do some "chants" for a section of one of the new songs...and I figured it be fun to offer the job to a few lucky fans!
Here's the deal:
At 2pm this Friday January 26th, we will let a group of you into the studio to do some yelling for us...
The place:
Avatar Studios - 441 W. 53rd St (between 9th & 10th Ave)
The time:
We will open the doors around 2pm.
**DO NOT** arrive any earlier than 1pm which is when the line will form....
(fans arriving earlier than 1pm will not be permitted to line up outside)
Depending on the turnout, we cannot guarantee entry to everybody.
It will be based on first come, first serve.
You will be needed for no more than an hour, so you will be able to leave by 3pm.
**DO NOT** bring cameras or recording equipment....any found will be held at the reception desk while the session takes place.
