Dream Theater

I posted this earlier, but it got hung up in "moderation".

1. Dream Theater
2. Foo Fighters
3. Mastadon
4. Sum 41
5. Megadeath

After listening to all the songs and learning about the process I believe DT has a real shot at winning. I don't think FF will get it because Dave Grohl screams the song. Mastadon picked silly lyrics and a dull pace. Sum 41 has moments of promise, but the song just doesn't come together. Megadeaths song is repetitive and sounds like most every other Megadeath song. The songs are pretty good and catchy, but they don't compare to .....

DT's song is just plain better musicianship, sound and melody. I don't believe the song length will be an issue because of how the song evolves and balances. Plus the lyrics are timely and put a language to something everyone can relate to.

GO DT!!

FYI: When I watched the videos on youtube these were the stats I added up for each song. I would search for the nominated song and then added the number of views for the top 3 videos displayed on the top of the page.

Approximately and in millions:

1. Foo Fighters 4 mil
2. DT 3.5 mil
3. Mastadon 1 mil
4. Megadeath 1.5 mil
5. Sum 41 .5 mil

Not sure why it got hung up in moderation and I didn't see a notification. We'll have to look in to that.

@Callahan: I'm new to this thing, I'm not sure either. I did add a pic of the Grammy Award and youtube links to all the songs, maybe it just got filtered out with all of that.

While I see your point and am also hopeful that DT will win, despite Grohl's screams in their nominated song-it's still the Foo Fighters. That's why i think they'll win-it wont have anything to do with the song, its only because of who they are. Im not saying dt wont win, but thats my reasoning for who i expect to win

@Brewtaco: Yeah, point taken. Based on popularity, then FF will win. Not to mention they have the funniest video with Lemmy from Motorhead and probably the catchiest groove of all the songs. Still, it's tough not to compare and believe DT can actually pull it off.

On a second listen, I've gotta make some changes to my original ranking and add some praise: Sum 41's song sounded a lot better and came together progily well. FF's has the best pace and groove. I like Megadeath's metal edge. Mastadon's got some really heavy riffs and drum fills. BUT...

DT is a 9 min journey of musical and lyrical excellence.

Let's not forget that when the Grammy's first handed out a "Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal" award, they gave it to Jethro Tull over Metallica. The voters are pretty much clueless.

Well, looks like Foo Fighters won the category... along with about 4 other Grammy's. They couldn't have given that one category to DT??

@SDDT Fan: I know right! It would have been nice to see DT win it. FF's have won like 20 Grammys in their career, I mean congrats to them but come on. I like White Limo, but it doesn't even compare.
