Systematic Chaos

ON contrary to other DT albums it has a few songs that might only be good (and not totally amazing like others...) and therefore doesn't rank as high. On the other hand, In The Presence Of Enemies is one of their best tracks ever imo so all together it's still an amazing album.
Also, I really like the artwork, especially the one of the special editon. And the 5.1. mix is amazing, 5.1 dolby or everything in higher quality actually should be the standard for all their releases, it's the only way for their brilliant songs! :)

I thought SC was incredible! Not as proggy as in the past, but not every album can or should be the same thing. One reason I think DT is the best band ever is their ability to create so many different sounding albums and be so good at whatever they try! Yes, in the presence of enemies is truly a masterpiece, that can connect emotionally with any member of the human race. Even some of the easier less complicated songs like Forsaken I love! You can listen over and over and hear so many cool small details, especially on guitar.

I don't know how people could think this is a weak album, its like all the others... Each song a UNIQUE treasure trove of sonic candy waiting to be discovered!

There are just a lot of people who really hate the metal side of DT. I admit that the lyrics and the vocals to The Dark Eternal Night were REALLY lame, but other than that I really enjoy Systematic Chaos... except the outro to Ministry, which is far too long.

Don't get me wrong by thinking that I don't love the prog scene of DT, I love "Scenes from a Memory", it's an incredible Masterpiece (what album isn't, this guys are surreal), but SC, my god it's so goddamn technical, prog, heavy and above all, detailed, I really can ear it over and over again and find every day a new detail, and think that MP, the drummer, has so much of him in it!! Just great.

Chears to all!!

Last well rather long!

I think SC was their weakest effort. It's definitely a push into the thrash metal genre that Portnoy was clearly leading the group. The album was just plain awful and difficult to listen to. Of course, the Album is clearly marked... and it didn't fail to deliver just that. Chaos.

Awful? I can see how you may not like it, but awful? Forsaken is awful? In the Presence is awful?

yes awful. Hard to even listen to. My CD is like new only listened through it once and new I'd never need to hear anything from that album. Like I said. wanna listen to Slayer go listen to Slayer. Wanna listen to prog rock/prog metal slip in any DT CD other than SC

Well, I don't think Slayer ever had a piano intro to a song (well, that's just a guess as I've never really listened to much of them). Or a melodic chorus like Forsaken has. Or a singer who could actually sing. But, hey, if you feel that way, I guess that's your right! I don't really understand how I can like the album so much but others actually hate it who are DT fans. Maybe I'm the odd one, but I have a blast listening to that album, and don't really care!

Later.

Ah that's fine, I actually still find myself listening to more of their later stuff, simply because I'm more metal inclined in general. Of course their earlier stuff are classics but I like their heavier side more. SC isn't their best but it's still quite strong in my opinion, no love for Repentance and The Ministry Of Lost Souls?
