=Soulfire said:Yeah I know about it all being Rogers; hence another reason why, dare I say it, The Wall is not one of my most favourite albums of theres. It's got great moments, but there are other albums which just trump it IMO.

Oh and I DEFINITELY agree at the underratedness of the Division Bell. If people gave it a chance and actually sat down and listened to it its got some of Gilmour's greatest moments on the guitar.

drop2d mentioned the Division Bell. i think High Hopes is the best song on that album. but The Wall is a journey, one song flowing into another so much that you can't really just play 1 song by itself, though Comfortably Numb often is.

songwriting wise most of it is Waters tix are $$$ but it's a big concert to put on, esp. bringing it all the way to OZ.

edit: drop2d - i'd pick Animals over DSOTM, Gilmour's guitar on Dogs is amazing, he's one of my fav. guitarist \m/

Dogs is easily my favorite Floyd song. Spectacular in every single way. However, I prefer DSOTM as a whole to Animals as a whole, mainly because Animals seems to end incredibly fast.

As to Wall shows, I'd love to go to one. Not only is the music mostly good, but the whole "building a cardboard wall and projecting awesome stuff on it" concept is pure gold.

From DSOTM to The Wall, all masterpieces!!!

Oh, and Echoes before that :D

I wanted to go see the Wall when it comes here to Melbourne, Australia, but the ticket prices are too expensive. Shame. I'm seeing Opeth in December, instead

Melbourne has 4 shows. i'm sure if you had kept your eye on them being added you could've got a cheap ticket... cheap being $100-$150

I really want to see Opeth, but in Brisbane the event is 18+. I'll be 18 then, but none of my Opeth-loving friends will, and I don't just wanna rock up by myself lol.

I love Pink Floyd too, these were my first glimpse at what i call propper music. I was only about 12 years old, when my dad said one day, "here son try this album out, i reckon this might be up your street", the album was Dark Side Of The Moon.
I think the reason he thought i would like it, is because at this time i was constantly listening to Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Welcome To The Pleasuredome album and their twelve inch versions of Two Tribes and Relax. (It was around 84 touch and i was only twelve).
But the seeds were laid in that Frankie album, and now for me personally, Dark Side Of The Moon is probably my favourite album of all time.
I went on and bought the rest of the Floyd catalogue, a number of times, albums then CD's, then remasters etc, and now recently i just bought the Immersion box set of Dark Side and the Discovery box set which contains all their albums.
From Floyd, i branched out into Zeppelin, Yes, Moody Blues etc, all the way up to more current bands like the Ozric Tentacles, Colour Haze and Dream Theater.
I'm always searching for that next great guitar solo.

^ that bit in bold. do not let going by yourself stop you! i've been to so many concerts by myself, once the band are onstage you'll be fine. buy the ticket and go see Opeth

gigs i went to alone: Radiohead 1998, Pantera 2001, G3 2006, Black Label Society 2006, Roger Waters 2007, Joe Satriani 2008, Dream Theater 2009. i'm seeing Steve VAI next week for his Perth Masterclass \m/

The Wall is 1a with Dark Side of the Moon as 1b in my Floyd collection. I loved the Wall movie (where did When the Tigers Roam Free go and why wasn't Hey You in it?). I never could get Dark Side of the Moon to sync with The Wizard of Oz though (or is that just urban legend?).

The intro to Octavarium is clearly an homage to Floyd...I assume it to be intentional.

This is the life I belong to

The tape for Hey You was lost somewhere in the recording process. Most DVD versions have it as an extra though.

And the DSOTM/Wizard of Oz does have some casuality syncs from what I've heard, but it wasn't intentional.
