The New album leaves me speechless!!! You can feel the energy, passion, and love for what you guys do. Mike Mangini....you are an animal. I could not be happier with you being the new drummer for the next chapter in DTs story. You guys killed it, best album to date in my opinion!! Have the box set on order and i will see you guys in NY James... your voice is epic! John P and John M... Beastly is all i can say. Rock on forever guys!

This is really my all favortie disc from them. Orginally, I felt they couldn't top Systematic Chaos but I was very wrong. I like " Black Clouds. . ." but repeated listenings started to make me depressed ( interestingly enough ). I love metal but I like a combination of songwriting elements within an album--I guess thats what I get for listening to Fleetwood Mac and Frank Zappa albums growing up!

The first time I listened to it, I got out of my room, tried to say something, and I just could'nt. I walked like a zombie around the house and tried to settle my mind. All that came from my mouth was: "WOW".

So I just finished listening to ADToE for the first time this evening. Amazing CD. At 36 years old I've been listening to DT since I was just 17 and this is the most impressed I've been by them in quite some time. That's not to say I haven't loved everything they've ever done, but this album really floored me. Epic was the first word to come to mind.

For very personal reasons, Beneath the Surface really struck a chord in me and brought me to tears. Such a beautiful, yet sad song.

Hopefully I will get to catch them live again one day. It's been a long time.

What a great album "A Dramatic Turn of Events" has turned out to be. The Spirit does Carry On indeed. Very well done boys! I listened to the new disk for the first time yesterday. It was great. I listened again today. It was amazing. Tomorrow? I cannot wait to listen again, and again. As with all DT records, you really can't digest everything until you listen about five or ten times. I can't anyway.

I cannot wait to see you guys play here in Dallas/Ft. Worth again next month. I've been to every show here since 1996 and before that all your shows in Chicago since 1992. You've never let me down. (You played here soon after Dimebag Daryl of Pantera was killed and your rendition of Cemetery Gates - with Vinny Paul joining MP on drums - was inspired. Not a dry eye in the house. Thank you for that!)

Oh, Mike Mangini is a monster. Much more musical than MP. But understand, I was sad to see MP go. I'm just thrilled with the new addition and how much Mike Mangini adds to the overall sound. It is certainly different, but in a good way. Welcome to the fold, Mike M.

See you from ROW #5 on October 27th, 2011.

P.S.. My bud from Sacramento and another from Chicago are flying-in for the show too. They are as anxious as I am.

Hi all. DT fan since about '92. Cautiously purchased the new album with fears of a repeat of my overall dislike for the last few albums. This new album is my old DT. Album is epic...a true masterpiece that I had hoped it would be. Gone is the generic metal "chugging" and "shredding" sound from SC, TOT and BC&SL. Those to me are just generic metal with a few standout tracks here and there. ADTOE has epic tracks and beautiful, tranquil ballads. More ballads and slow tracks DT...you are great at them and James' voice is awesome on this album. BMUBMD is the only track that I'm not too crazy about. The screaming is annoying and so below DT...at least I think.

Maybe this album is better because Mike Portnoy is not there anymore. He is one of the world's best drummer...no doubt about it, but the new Mike is amazing as well. Maybe MP was steering the band in a generic metal, thrash metal direction but I was not liking it anymore.

Several tracks on this new album actually gave me goose bumps. "A Dramatic Turn of Events" is truly Dramatic and for the good. Please continue in this direction DT.

Thanks Dream Theater for the type of album I was hoping you'd produce again. Epic stuff.

Hello))) I just want to share a few conclusions from me & from my russian's friends who likes DT too))]:0)

My first friend Ivan said (he’s a keyboardist)
Hi! I’m writing my opinion about the new album. I’ve heard it just 3 times. The people on the forum say that CD snapshot is a crap, but let’s see later. I’m waiting for deluxe. Now a few words about the music: I think DT became more melodic. D’you know my first feel? The guys were held in the prison very long time and now they’ve got full of freedom! It can be heard by the number of ideas which they put there. As for the drum parts I say that they are very straightforward. I can say that these parties are much easier than the systematic chaos parts. However, I can’t call this album too prominent; it’s just one more step in the DT’s history. The mastering is perfect as usual. The sound became mellower. Portnoy’s punk style is gone in the past. But I repeat the drum parts haven’t impressed me. I can suppose that it was written not by the drummer but by the guitarist (but who knows F* Petrucci). Now I have the feel of wand. Everything is perfect, but it has felt that the guys look closely to the new drummer.
P.S: Everything that I’ve said higher is just definitely my IMAO, just after three time listening.

My friend Dan (guitarist) said: Irena, I liked the new album of DT. It sounds great and listens with 1 breath. It needs superhuman efforts to play all this music I can’t imagine how they do it! We have incredible chance to hear, to enjoy, and learning….

I have to admit, my reaction during my first listen was kind of an unenthusiastic "well this is nice." But the more I listen to it, the more and more I really like it. The thing I love most about the album in general is how thoughtfully the songs are written and orchestrated. The phrases are allowed breathe and progress naturally. The development isn't rushed. They are very carefully paced and the resolutions/payoffs are incredible. The orchestrations aren't over done, you can hear every texture and timbre very clearly. If you're looking for instant gratification, this album might not be for you, but if you're patient and let yourself become absorbed in the music, you're in for an aesthetic treat!

@Lightweight: Yeah man!! It was Build me up, Break me down. I always try to recruit new fans..... this was hook line and sinker, as soon as he heard the magic pumping out of my system. Im so pumped about this album, been a fan since i first heard the majesty album and have followed everything down to the side projects ever since and going to every show I can. I got the standard cd edition of the album on September 13, from my local music store. What can i say, this is a great return to form.

I was so sad when Mr.Portnoy left the band but this album is a very powerful chapter in Dream Theater's history.

Mike Mangini you are a great drummer !!!

A Dramatic Turn of Events is a masterpiece. I listen to it constantly, and each time I fully enjoy it. Imo, the only imperfection is that by ending the album with "Beneath the Surface" is very sad. Don't get me wrong, I love "Beneath the Surface" I even associate a period of my life with the lyrics, but each time the album ends I feel sad.
