I have scoured the internet. I have looked everywhere. And I realized that the DT fansite is probably the absolute best place I can bring this up.
Has anyone ever done an official play of Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory?
I know the album is a play in itself, but I don't think there's any reason it can't be a breakout hit on the stage. I ask this question because if the play does not officially exist, I want to make it happen. I want to write it. I'm asking for anyone's collaboration on this - anyone that wants to get in on it. I have theater experience, majored in English in college, and have a bit of experience writing plays (blocking and dialogue both). There are other things I probably couldn't do on my own, which is why I'm enlisting the greatest fans in the world.
I'd like one more opinion about this: Since Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory is one of their most technical albums, actually performing the music in a play, right alongside the acting, is something that I'm sure would be a hugely daunting task. I know I probably cannot use the music anyway without some sort of approval from the band itself, but if I did, do I try to go note for note? Or do I just capture the main themes of the music? In either case, I'd also need someone to help out on writing the music, which is something I never formally learned to do.
I know this is a long shot, and that it may have been done before, or some of you might just refer me to the DVD they made explaining the album, but think about if this could be real. Our band, an inspiration from the greatest play ever made. All theater groups shall know of Metropolis Part 2, all young people will see it on a page, and all minds will have an opportunity to be graced over with this spectacular opus.
