Okay mike mangini is probably one of the best drumers in the world ..............but why dose that have an effect on DT well let me develop my question it is like this when van halen lost David lee roth they lost there soul it is sadley to say thatwhen DT lost mike portnoy they lost a great bit of there soul . I hate to say it but if i don't some body elles will and hey i have all there albums . So please take a discution about who/wish album is the best i can strongly suggest falling in to infinity/ systematic chaos that is the best album that i feal great for some songs on black clouds and silver linings are tremendous also but one of my favourites is the last 5 minutes or more on count of tuscany . that realy gets my chills going .

Lets put this straight Mike Mangini is probably the best drumer of portnoy/mangini but Portnoy has more to deliver on a more larger scale so please let him in again ....................for your one sake ...............he might not bee a better drummer but he makes you better and that makes my experiance when i listen to you better and that is all i want .......... sorry to bee a party pooper but that is how i feal !

I, too, preferred Van Hagar to the original Van Halen, and while I love Mike Portnoy and his contributions to the first 10 studio albums, I have been very impressed with Mike Mangini's drums, both on A Dramatic Turn of Events and on Dream Theater.

Also, just got and watched Live from Luna Park, and his drumming there is AMAZING!!! The one-armed sections of his drum solo blew me away!!! Can't believe a human being can play such fast and complicated parts literally with one arm behind his back (as he does at the end of Metropolis, Part 1. Also, having watched interviews with Mangini and the rest of the band, it looks like they are spiritually and fraternally in a good place right now.

I can't wait to spend an evening with the guys on their upcoming tour. I saw both San Francisco shows on the last tour, and they were incredible.

I am just really really disappointed with the new album mixing.. the drums sound like eletronic drums with distortion...... it killed it for me!!!

Man, this whole Mike Portnoy/Mike Mangini thing is getting really stale. Yeah, there has been plenty of albums that Portnoy played on that are great. But realistically, Mike Mangini has only played on two albums now. To be fair, we need to give Mangini a chance. Besides, the work on the two albums MM has played on is fantastic. I just can't see Portnoy doing any better period.
Portnoy and Mangini are both excellent drummers, and personally I think both are great.
Portnoy is the past and Mangini is the future - live with it.

Seriously - you are going to compare Hagar to Roth?
Sammy Hagar has more talent in his little finger than David Lee Roth in his whole being.
Roth - really?
Eddie, Alex, and Michel were the foundation of Van Halen in the early years. Roth was the weakest link.
Van Halen was a complete package with Hagar.

Actually, my favourite Van Halen was the Sammy Hagar's Van Halen. My favourite DT was with MP, but I'm really trying to get past that now, he's gone and I really do believe this next album is gonna be one of DT's best ever. Miss you lots Mike.

I just don't see that way they will be different but that dosnt mean they will be worse.
