What songs do you want to see live? What songs do you think they will play live?

It'll be my first show, so it's all good! (Boston on Columbus Day night)

I'd love to have seen Portnoy's 12-step done in it's entirety (Mirror, Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Root of All Evil, Repentance, Shattered Fortress), but that's probably out of the question now.

Hell's Kitchen/Lines in the Sand from NM

How often do they play Change of Seasons?

The Forsaken's picture

Where do i begin, there's so many, but i suppose these are the main ones:-

6:00
Voices
Peruvian Skies
Lines In The Sand...( all the time)
The Spirit Carries On
As I am
In The Name Of God
In The Presence Of Enemies Pts 1&2...( just awsome on Chaos In Motion )
The Count O Tuscany ( done to death on last tour, so probably wont get a look in, but having never seen em' live before, this one's a must for me, such a stirring track )

As well anything from ADTOE, so going by all that, i reckon thats a five hour gig, i'm up for it if they are.

BigBunny's picture

i wouldn't mind if they played all of the new album, even if it took up over half the set!

Alot of songs depend on if wether Labrie can pull them off or not. There's nothing worse than hearing your favourite songs being butchered by 1 musicians bad evening.

Songs I'd like to hear are:

Far From Heaven, Breaking All Illusions, Glass Prison and Take The Time.

metaldad's picture

Get rid of the Drum Solo and do Lost Not Forgotten.

DamageInc75's picture

General setlist looking good so far. Could do without Forsaken, Great Debate and Pull Me Under. I'd trade all 3 for an epic closer like InThe Presence of Enemies, Count of Tuscany, Octavarium (or ACOS, but I know that won't happen without MP). Hopefully they'll work in my favorite song from the new album - Lost Not Forgotten. That bridge toward the end is euphoric.

Love the new album!!!! See you in Boston!!!

I'm hoping they open this tour with Bridges in the Sky. If you think stage and light show for the beginning of this epic song, its perfect. The indian chanted sleigh bells and the deathly bellows with a dark venue while the guys take the stage... Wow. I predict ending the songlist before the encores with Breaking all Illusions. In between, would like to hear The Great Debate, Octavarium, In the Presence of Enemies II (or I and II), Learning to Live, Lines in the Sand, Fatal Tragedy. Many others.

As far as space dye vest, I read in their book that they will never play that live.

pdurbin22's picture

Here is what I predict for a 2-hour setlist based on what they played in Europe over the summer, plus the fact that half the set will likely be new album material:

(Intro: "The Dream is Collapsing)
On The Backs Of Angels
These Walls
Lost Not Forgotten
Endless Sacrifice
Drum Solo
Ytse Jam
This Is The Life
Bridges In The Sky
Peruvian Skies
Caught In A Web
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions
----------------------------
Metropolis Pt 1

Bridges in the Sky
Breaking All Illusions

NOW THATS A GIG

Kashmir75's picture

Play a set of the entire new album, and then a bunch of oldies. :)

erixdream's picture

Since (I belive) DT never played 'The Shattered Fortress'...it'd be nice to have some of that. Considering the new álbum, 'Bridges in the Sky' reminds me a lot of Shattered Fortress so I'd be absolutely amazing to hear this new song live (hopefuly in Mexico City too)

It's hard to choose! I'd like to hear the new album live in its entirely. I believe that it's pretty obvious they'll continue playing On the Backs of Angels just like they did with A Rite of Passage from during the previous tour.

It'd be so epic to hear Bridges in the Sky, Lost Not Forgotten and Outcry live. I wonder if they'll play the softer songs too, I'd love to hear Beneath the Surface.

From previous albums, I hope they continue playing or play The Count of Tuscany, Wither, The Dark Eternal Night, In The Name Of God, As I Am, The Ministry Of Lost Souls, The Glass Prison, Solitary Shell, Through Her Eyes, The Dance of Eternity, Finally Free, Hollow Years, The Root Of All Evil, I Walk Beside You, These Walls, Surrounded, Just Let Me Breathe, The Mirror, Lie...

and the whole new álbum...

I believe we would need a 3 hour show hahaha

I'd love to see the new CD played entirely. Add a few classics as a closer.

Maybe A Change of Seasons if you want to get jizzoriifc with it.

matei's picture

The Mirror
Beyond This Life
As I Am
A Nightmare to Remember (mostly for that double bass drums in the beginning and the crazy guitar)
To Tame a Land (a great cover!!!)
Outcry
Lost Not Forgotten
This Is the Life
Scarred
Space-Dye Vest (it would be a 1st, but it would be just great, almost divine sounding)

lonestarDTF's picture

I'd like to see a closer of Far from Heaven/Breaking all Illusions/Beneath the Surface

JohnFrantastic's picture

The songs I really want to see are - Learning to Live, Hells Kitchen, Trial of Tears and The Glass Prison. But I doubt we will get to see TGP.

Devyfan's picture
I think the setlist will be something like this:

On the Backs of Angels
Build Me Up / Break Me Down
These Walls
Under a Glass Moon
Peruvian Skies
The Great Debate
Bridges In the Sky
Outcry
Drum Solo/
YtseJam
Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions
--------------------------------
Learning to Live
I would gladly, gladly take this setlist on Sept 30th! Very Niiiiice. Something from Awake added on there would be awesome too!

Hprog's picture

Those are hell of some lists you guys have there!

I've seen DT live 4 times and now I really look forward to the new songs live, especially Outcry, Breaking All Illusions and Bridges in the Sky.

From the old ones, I've never heard The Mirror live, and it's one of my favorites, but they might not play it again because of you-know-whom. Other than that, these would be my special requests, so to say:

Metropolis Pt. I (my favorite DT song of all time, I heard it live once but played in a medley with Pull Me Under)
Learning to Live
Scarred
Space Dye Vest
Trial of Tears
Home
6DOIT (the whole thing hehehe)
As I Am (I heard it live once, but it's not enough)
I Walk Beside You (ditto)

@shimjuan: Bro, the sound of the recording is NOT solely a function of the playing by MM on the record, but mostly just the mixing of the drums. I agree the drums are soft and sterile, but that's because 1 - They used a new producer/engineer on the album, and 2- MM literally played on this album like ONE MONTH after joining the band, and it's not entirely his style of playing. Petrucci wrote the drum parts, so take it up with him (and hope he doesn't put you in a headlock with those guns of his when you tell him :) Cheers!

Hoping for a few songs off the new album

--- The Setlist I would only dream of hearing when they come to Toronto on October 6th, 2011, but I will settle for whatever they give me :D

appx. show start time: 7:30 p.m.
appx. show finish time: 11:00 p.m.

1. A Nightmare to Remember
2. Under a Glass Moon
3. Build me up, Break me Down
4. Rudess solo (3-4 mns)
5. Outcry
6. Caught in a Web
7. Mangini solo (3-4 mns)
8. Learning to live

------- INTERMISSION ( 30 minutes)--------

9. Bridges in the Sky
10. One Last Time/ Spirit Carries On
11. Dark Eternal Night
12. In the Name of God

---- ENCORE------

13. Metropolis pt.1
14. Beneath the Surface
15. Breaking all Illusions

--- average song time: lets call it 11 minutes, that's a 2 hour, 45 minute set (11 mns x 15 songs), with an intermission. song breaks may add up to 15-20 minutes....they could do it!!!!! (there would not be time for an opener though). I saw Rush (who is older than DT), on their last tour follow a similar format. it was around 3.5 hours with an intermission.

additional note...... would really love to hear a change of seasons and six degrees (with an orchestra) in they're entirety live one day, but this list is just for the upcoming tour.

zedsdead's picture

On the Backs of Angels
Build Me Up / Break Me Down
These Walls
Under a Glass Moon
Peruvian Skies
The Great Debate
Bridges In the Sky

Drum Solo/
YtseJam
Far From Heaven
Breaking All Illusions

For now the only thing that pops to mind is Bridges In The Sky, Outcry and Lost Not Forgotten. Ah, and i need to see Metropolis in its entirety to feel complete haha. Other then that, it wouldn't matter that much to me. I'm sure they would play good songs!
