I definitely look forward to MM's full participation in the writing process too.
One thing that I have noticed is that the overall tempo has increased in the instrumental sections and in the faster songs overall. Along with this is a profusion of notes. It is almost like DT keeps trying to outdo itself technically as the primary way of progressing. I think OTBOA is a good example. It almost feels like there is too much going on, maybe like less would have been more. I have also thought at times that they play so fast that it is difficult to really digest or distinguish what they are doing. This is not a feeling that occurs pre 6DOIT.
I did like there was a little more diversity and some slower tempo songs on ADTOE. I think it helps make it one of their best in awhile.
I do agree with someone above who said this album felt safe. It didn't really break any new ground for DT.
Well that is a good sign that James would be up for a concept album. Do you have a link so I can listen/read the interview?
The biggest barrier DT had mentioned in the past is that they got tired of playing through Scenes over and over again on tour. If the did a concept album again everyone would expect the whole thing on tour. I guess it would get kind of old after awhile. Still, I think they are at their best with the concept album. A Change of Seasons, Scenes, Six Degrees...need I say more?
I would love to see a concept album. I was just listening to Scenes again and I was struck by the depth and artistry. I think the concept album brings out the best in them.
I totally agree. The compression is horrible on the CD. There is absolutely no reason why the CD had to be that way. For some reason major compression is an industry standard. There are a few exceptions like Steven Wilson who now produces excellent uncompressed music. I think the the DT guys just don't have the time to oversee the mixing and mastering and are not aware how a growing number of fans are becoming discontent. It is great to have the HD tracks version to see what an uncompressed album sounds like.
The album itself is awesome. Best since Six Degrees.
Anyone hear any updates on the plans for the new album?
